Hayao Miyazaki film screens at The Brattle Theater
The Boston Independent Film Festival will screen Hayao Miyazaki’s latest feature film, The Boy and the Heron (Kimi-tachi wa Dō Ikiru ka, or literally How Do You Live?) at the Brattle Theater on October 23 .Japanese with English subtitles. The film has been licensed by GKIDS and will be released in North American theaters on December 8, with previews on November 22. The preview will include an English dub and a review with Japanese audio with English subtitles. The film had its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), opening events on September 7 at Roy Thomson Hall. It was the first time the festival had opened with an action film and a first for a Japanese film. The San Sebastian Film Festival (SSIFF) presented its European premiere on September 22 at the Kursaal Auditorium in San Sebastian, Spain, following the opening gala of the event. This is the fourth film Miyazaki presented at SSIFF, and the first time his film was included in the official selection of the event. The festival honored Miyazaki with the Donostia Award for his work. The film is expected to open the 2023 Animation Is Film Festival, which will take place at the TCL Chinese 6 Theaters in Hollywood from October 18-22.
